Tor Christensen

Tor, who has nearly 20 years of related experience, was associate counsel at the National Fire Sprinkler Association. In that role, he was responsible for negotiating 15 multi-employer collective bargaining agreements, one multi-employer national agreement, and the National Fire Sprinkler Association’s multi-employer Canadian agreements. He was also a trustee on 13 different multi-employer pension, welfare, apprentice and other funds, including a $3 billion pension fund.
From 2015 to 2017, he served as director of labor relations at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. In that role, he developed a labor relations strategy for 200-plus locations and 16,000 employees – standardizing staffing and operating practices, pay practices, work rules, paid time off and insurance benefits. He was also directly responsible for 35 different local agreements represented by 11 different international unions.
Throughout his career, Tor has held roles such as the vice president of labor relations at The Freeman Company; adjunct professor at George Mason University School of Management; special counsel at Littler Mendelson; associate at Akin Gump; and associate at Seyfarth Shaw.
Tor earned a juris doctorate degree at New York University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in environmental justice at Goucher College in Towson, Md. He has served as a contributing editor of The Developing Labor Law since 2009, and his written work on the labor relations industry has been featured by key publications such as the New York Law Journal.
